Kyrgyzstan Battles Crypto Crime Surge Amid Rapid Adoption Growth
Kyrgyzstan's Interior Minister Ulan Niyazbekov revealed that his country's police have opened 90 criminal cases involving cryptocurrencies since the start of 2026. This surge in crypto-related crimes coincides with the country's rapid growth in virtual asset adoption, which has made it one of the top crypto hubs worldwide.
The minister pointed out that tracing cryptocurrency transactions is particularly challenging due to their speed and ability to cross borders through various networks, mixers, and wallets. In a recent operation against a transnational online-fraud group, investigators found over $3 million in digital assets on the suspects' devices, stored in a TRON-network wallet.
Kyrgyzstan's authorities are working to strengthen their anti-crypto crime efforts by building a dedicated module inside the Unified Register of Crimes. This will enable law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and the central bank to share data on offenses committed in the digital environment.
