$LAPTOP: Hunter Biden's Meme Coin Enters Crypto Market
Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, is launching a meme coin called $LAPTOP. This digital asset will start trading on September 9 and is linked to the controversy surrounding his laptop.
The launch comes as the crypto market has been scrutinizing politicians' involvement in meme coins. Trump's own meme coin peaked at $75 before cratering, while another launched by former NYC Mayor Eric Adams briefly surged only to plunge shortly after.
Critics argue that these meme coins have no real-world utility and are often used as a joke or to manipulate the market. 'The world probably doesn't need another political meme coin,' said Nic Puckrin, founder of The Coin Bureau. 'Even if there's a lot of demand at launch, that doesn't make it a sustainable investment.'
The $LAPTOP coin has drawn scrutiny from market watchers ahead of its launch. Alice Liu, head of research at CoinMarketCap, noted that little is known about the token and few details have been confirmed.
