Hunter Biden's meme coin, $LAPTOP, suffered a catastrophic debut on Wednesday, losing an astonishing 98% of its value in mere minutes.
The token, inspired by the laptop scandal that surrounded Biden during recent years, was meant to represent 'resilience, redemption and recovery' in his personal journey. Instead, it became a symbol of chaos and volatility.
According to Biden, the project's market maker provided only $5,000 in liquidity at launch, despite substantial buyer interest. This led to extreme price swings, with token prices rocketing from $2.39 to a peak of $316 on certain exchanges before plummeting below $4.
An unidentified trader took advantage of the situation, converting $250,000 into $1.18 million in just minutes. However, over 15,000 digital wallets sustained losses, representing approximately 80% of all participants.
