Hunter Biden's cryptocurrency project, $LAPTOP, has crashed in value by over 95% just hours after its launch. The meme coin initially skyrocketed from $37 to $222 within its first hour of trading on September 9.

However, by 3 p.m. EDT the same day, $LAPTOP had plummeted to approximately $1.36, mirroring the typical trajectory of meme coins that often experience a surge in value due to social media hype before crashing.

The coin's distribution strategy included issuing 1 billion tokens to various groups, including crypto wallet owners who lost money on President Trump's meme coin and subscribers to Hunter Biden's Substack. However, Andrew Callaghan's company clarified that he has no involvement with $LAPTOP aside from providing a mailing list.

The launch of the coin coincided with a sensitive period for U.S. crypto legislation, as the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act is scheduled for a Senate vote on September 15, which could impact the regulatory landscape for digital assets.
