$LAPTOP Meme Coin Implodes in Value After Initial Surge
Hunter Biden's meme coin, $LAPTOP, suffered a steep decline in value on its first day of trading. Initially, it surged from $37 to $222 within an hour, but by 3 p.m. EDT, it plummeted to approximately $1.36, representing a 95% drop since launch.
This mirrors the typical trajectory of meme coins, which often experience a brief spike due to social media hype before crashing. The $LAPTOP coin's distribution strategy included issuing 1 billion tokens and allocating them to crypto wallet owners who lost money on President Trump's meme coin, subscribers to Hunter Biden's Substack, and individuals on a mailing list curated by Andrew Callaghan.
Callaghan's company clarified that he has no involvement with $LAPTOP aside from providing the mailing list. The coin's launch coincides with a sensitive period for U.S. crypto legislation, as the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act is scheduled for a Senate vote on September 15, which could impact the regulatory landscape for digital assets.
