Hunter Biden, the son of US President Joe Biden, is venturing into the cryptocurrency market with his own meme coin called $LAPTOP. The token is set to launch on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, on Base, Coinbase's blockchain network.

The $LAPTOP coin is a reference to the infamous laptop controversy that emerged during the 2020 presidential campaign. In a video posted on social media, Hunter Biden promoted the planned launch by compiling news clips and politicians discussing the laptop.

Notably, this move comes after Hunter Biden's July Substack post in which he challenged the laptop's provenance and chain of custody, while acknowledging that it contained records from a period when he was struggling with addiction. The Wall Street Journal reports that the coin appears aimed in part at President Donald Trump, a longtime political foe of the Biden family.
