$LAPTOP Meme Coin Launches with Trump-Targeting Airdrop
Hunter Biden's infamous laptop has been turned into a meme coin, dubbed $LAPTOP, and it's set to launch on September 9 on Base, the Ethereum layer-2 network built by Coinbase. The project is more than just a lighthearted cryptocurrency; it also targets investors who lost money in Donald Trump's $TRUMP meme coin. In fact, wallets belonging to those who suffered losses on $TRUMP are among those eligible for an airdrop.
The name $LAPTOP dates back to 2019 when Hunter Biden left a computer at a repair shop in Delaware, which became a major political flashpoint before the 2020 presidential election. Now, this scandal is being turned into a tradable digital asset with some of its investors positioned to receive it.
The project has already attracted criticism from crypto traders, and Base's involvement is being clarified: the token being deployed on Base does not mean Coinbase has endorsed or partnered with it. At least 14 imitation LAPTOP tokens appeared across four blockchain networks within an hour of news about the project.
