LAPTOP Memecoin Faces Backlash Before Launch Amid Criticism of Political Token Promotions
Hunter Biden's new memecoin, LAPTOP, is set to launch on Base this Wednesday, September 9. The project aims to target investors who lost money on Donald Trump's TRUMP memecoin, offering an airdrop specifically for those affected.
The founders of the project, including Hunter Biden, will retain 30% of the tokens, which will be locked for six months before being gradually unlocked over two years. The remaining 70% will be distributed as follows: 20% in airdrops to TRUMP losers and 50% reserved for investors.
Kraken removed a promotional post for LAPTOP after users criticized the platform for promoting a new political memecoin. However, Jordan Fish from Base stated that the project can still launch on their network without Coinbase's approval, and no partnership exists between LAPTOP and Kraken or other platforms involved in the controversy.
