$LAPTOP Takes Aim at Trump's Crypto Empire with Controversial Launch
Hunter Biden's new crypto meme coin, $LAPTOP, is set to launch on September 9th on the Base digital ledger developed by Coinbase Global. The son of former US President Joe Biden has been touting decentralized digital assets as the 'inevitable future' in separate X posts.
The $LAPTOP token will hold 30% of the total 1 billion token supply, which will be locked for six months and vest fully in two years. Another 20% of the token supply will go to victims who lost money on the $TRUMP meme coin, subscribers to Biden's Substack, and a mailing list created by journalist Andrew Callaghan.
Biden's new meme coin takes aim at Trump's multibillion-dollar crypto empire, which was marred by controversy after investors lost over $2.1 billion when the token price crashed in early 2025. The founders of $LAPTOP will destroy up to 30% of the meme coin supply if a series of 30 events have predetermined outcomes within a stipulated time frame.
However, experts warn that meme coins are highly speculative and often experience extreme volatility, with some tokens losing most of their value soon after launch. Biden's $LAPTOP coin may be no exception, but it also has the potential to become a success story like Dogecoin, which was launched in 2013 as a joke and has remained relevant due to its affiliations with celebrities and politicians.
