Largest Bitcoin Wallets Accelerate Accumulation as Smaller Holders Reduce Exposure
The largest Bitcoin wallets, holding over 10,000 BTC, have been accumulating coins at an accelerated rate in August. According to on-chain data from Cryptoquant, these wallets added a net 46,420 BTC between June and August, their highest level since March 15.
This cohort of whales, which may belong to organizations or the occasional large investor, broke its previous record from March when large wallets added 23,238 BTC. The current accumulation rate is a sign that the largest investors are buying in, but it's not yet clear if this trend will continue.
The smaller holders of 0.1 to 1 BTC distributed 9,700 coins net, indicating they may be decreasing their exposure to Bitcoin. Meanwhile, the Coinbase premium index remains in the red, suggesting weak US-based demand for BTC.
