Larsen Drops Half Million on Ellington Campaign
Cryptocurrency billionaire Chris Larsen has made a significant donation to support Theo Ellington's bid for District 10 supervisor, contributing $500,000 to his campaign. This contribution is not unusual in comparison to Larsen's other donations, but it is highly unusual for a San Francisco supervisorial race and may be the largest individual contribution ever made to a city supervisor candidate.
Larsen and his company, Ripple Labs, have collectively poured more money into the San Francisco races than any other donor this election season. In addition to supporting Ellington, Larsen has also given $2.5 million to support Mayor Daniel Lurie's charter amendments and $500,000 towards Lurie's committee supporting the Muni parcel tax measure.
Ellington is running against J.R. Eppler, a small-business attorney, and Dion-Jay Brookter, former chief executive at Young Community Developers, in District 10. This district includes Bayview Hunters-Point, Visitacion Valley, Portola, and Dogpatch.
