LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRYPTO INDUSTRY FIND COMMON GROUND IN REVISED CLARITY ACT
The revised CLARITY Act has gained backing from two influential organizations in the US. The National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and the National Cryptocurrency Association (NCA) have both endorsed the legislation, each for different reasons.
The FOP represents over 382,000 law enforcement officers and had raised concerns about the impact on their powers. However, after reviewing changes to the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act provisions, they were satisfied that it would not limit their ability to investigate crimes involving digital assets.
The revised bill includes provisions covering anti-money laundering and sanctions compliance, digital asset kiosks, seizure and tracing authorities, temporary transaction holds requested by law enforcement, and new grant and training programs aimed at strengthening digital asset investigations.
The NCA argued that the CLARITY Act provides stronger consumer protections while reducing regulatory uncertainty. They pointed to their own research showing over 67 million Americans owning cryptocurrency, with 73% of respondents supporting stronger consumer protections and 77% favoring comprehensive legislation for digital assets.
