Law Enforcement Groups Propose Changes to Controversial Crypto Bill
The proposed amendments to the Clarity for Digital Asset Markets (CLARITY) Act have sparked debate over its future in the US Senate. Law enforcement organizations, including the National Association of Assistant United States Attorneys and the National District Attorneys Association, sent a letter to the White House requesting changes to the provisions regarding developers.
The proposed changes include that the rules for developers should 'not create, expand, or alter criminal liability under federal law.' Patrick Witt, the White House crypto advisor, reacted to the proposals by saying they 'do not even come close' to the Trump administration's stance and implied that these provisions were not the result of 'productive negotiations.'
The CLARITY Act is struggling with objections from many Democratic members due to concerns about ethical rules regarding US President Donald Trump's crypto investments, which earned him $1.4 billion in 2025.
