Law Firms See Nearly Double Cyberattacks in 2025 Amid Dark Web Document Leaks
Cyberattacks on law firms have nearly doubled in 2025, with many cases involving the theft of sensitive documents and personal data. Greenberg Traurig, an international law firm, reported that unauthorized actors accessed some of their documents and posted them on the dark web.
The firm notified affected clients about the breach, which included exposed Social Security information. This incident is part of a growing trend of data breaches targeting law firms, with BakerHostetler handling nearly 60 such incidents in 2025, almost double its 2024 caseload.
According to Reuters, other law firms have disclosed similar breaches, including an incident at Taft Stettinius & Hollister where client Social Security numbers were exposed. Additionally, WilmerHale faced a proposed class action lawsuit after an alleged breach in May.
Crypto companies are also facing data breaches, with Coinbase disclosing that criminals bribed overseas support agents to steal personal data from 69,461 users in May 2025. Ledger confirmed a breach at e-commerce partner Global-e exposed order data belonging to some of its customers.
