Law Firms Under Siege: Cyberattacks Surge to Near-Doubling in 2025
Cyberattacks on law firms are on the rise, with nearly double the number of incidents reported in 2025 compared to the previous year. According to BakerHostetler's Data Security Incident Response Report, there were over 60 cybersecurity incidents involving law firms in 2025, including a breach at Greenberg Traurig where an unauthorized actor accessed documents and posted them on the dark web.
The report also noted that phishing was responsible for 30% of all incidents in 2025. Other law firms such as WilmerHale and Eckert Seamans have faced lawsuits related to data breaches, which exposed personal data including Social Security numbers and government identification numbers.
In the crypto space, companies such as Coinbase, Ledger, and SafePal have also disclosed breaches involving customers' personal information, with some incidents resulting in the exposure of sensitive data including names, addresses, phone numbers, and purchase details.
