Lazarus Group Transfers $30M via Hyperliquid Amid US Expansion Efforts
Lazarus Group, associated with North Korea's regime and cyber activities, has moved over $30 million through Hyperliquid. According to Arkham chain analysis, this was done within a three-week period in August.
The transactions involved wallets affiliated with Lazarus, which carried out various blockchain network transfers via HyperUnit. This platform enables users to lock native assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum for corresponding tokens on the Hyperliquid environment.
The permissionless nature of Hyperliquid has raised concerns about its regulatory compliance. The US authorities have sanctioned Lazarus Group due to their ties to North Korea's regime and cyber activities. Blockchain analyst ZachXBT had previously linked the group to various crypto attacks and methods of moving stolen funds.
Hyperliquid is attempting to access the US market through Bitnomial, which is owned by Payward. The regulatory clearance for this expansion is still pending. Despite this, President Donald Trump has backed the efforts to bring Hyperliquid under the right regulatory framework in the USA.
