Ledger CEO Warns Against Perfect Security in Crypto

Share

According to Pascal Gauthier, CEO of hardware wallet maker Ledger, perfect security is an unattainable goal in the cryptocurrency industry. Speaking on August 17, Gauthier emphasized that relying solely on user responsibility for security is not a viable solution.

Gauthier warned against shifting more responsibility onto users, stating that self-custody should not require ordinary users to understand every technical failure that could occur. He argued that this approach would limit the adoption of self-custody solutions.

Instead, Gauthier called for hardware wallet makers to build systems that protect assets even when users make mistakes. He also cautioned users against automatically trusting manufacturers simply because their products claim to be secure.
