Ledger CTO Disputes Multisig Wallets' Security Benefits
Guillemet, Ledger's CTO, recently discussed the limitations of multisig wallets. He argues that while they may provide additional security features, making wallet recovery more difficult can be a drawback.
According to Guillemet, users who rely on self-custody should opt for the 'miniscript' solution. This approach allows users to define sophisticated spending conditions without complicating things too much.
Miniscript enables users to create inheritance rules, time-locked recovery keys, and 2-of-3 authorization policies. Ledger's implementation of Miniscript also includes 'clear signing' for every spending path, allowing users to verify what they are approving on their hardware wallet.
Guillemet believes that developers can easily build custom wallet software using Miniscript. He even demonstrated this by creating a functional Bitcoin wallet with advanced spending policies in just a few hours with the help of AI assistant Claude.
