Lido Consolidates $16.5B in Staked ETH with Major Validator Upgrade
Lido, one of Ethereum's dominant liquid staking providers, has started its most significant infrastructure upgrade since Lido V2 launched in 2023. The rollout of Curated Module v2 (CMv2) began on July 23, 2026, and will consolidate over 8 million ETH, worth approximately $16.5 billion, onto Ethereum's larger validators enabled by the Pectra upgrade.
The Pectra upgrade has removed the 32 ETH cap per validator, allowing Lido to fold its massive fleet of individual validators together into fewer, more powerful nodes.
This shift is expected to reduce Ethereum's total validator count by approximately 33%, making it a network-level event with significant implications for the entire ecosystem. Attestation messages, which are signals broadcast by validators to confirm the state of the chain, are also expected to drop by around 29%.
The CMv2 rollout introduces two major changes: first, Lido's professional node operators will be required to post locked ETH collateral for the first time; and second, stakers can expect a modest drag on returns during the migration period, with an estimated 0.28% annual reduction in staking rewards.
