Lido's $16.5 Billion ETH Migration Set to Shake Up Ethereum Validators

Lido, a dominant player in Ethereum staking, has embarked on its most significant infrastructure change since Lido V2 launched in 2023. The protocol is migrating more than 8 million ETH, worth approximately $16.5 billion, onto larger validators enabled by the Pectra upgrade.

This migration falls under Lido's Curated Module v2 (CMv2), which was ratified by the Lido DAO on July 23, 2026, after audits and testnet trials. Prior to the Pectra upgrade, Ethereum validators were capped at 32 ETH each, requiring a massive fleet of individual nodes to manage Lido's position as the leading liquid staking provider.

With the introduction of larger validators, all those individual 32 ETH nodes can be folded together, significantly reducing the number of validators on the network. The result is an approximate 33% drop in Ethereum's total validator count.
