Lightning Labs Unveils L402 Website for AI Agent Economy Bitcoin Payments

Lightning Labs has launched l402.tech, a dedicated website for L402 Bitcoin payments targeting the AI agent economy.

L402 bundles payment and authentication into a single flow, allowing machines to access paid APIs by settling Lightning invoices and receiving cryptographic proofs in under a second with fees as low as 1 sat (approximately $0.001).

The protocol is built on HTTP 402, a status code originally reserved for 'Payment Required' but never widely implemented due to the web's lack of native payment layers.

L402 essentially gives every AI agent a Bitcoin wallet and library card at once, enabling machine-to-machine commerce without account management or billing infrastructure.
