Linea's Technical Push Attracts Liquidity with Ethereum Protocol Upgrades
Linea's latest technical push has led to a significant shift in liquidity to its mainnet. The network has integrated four years of Ethereum protocol upgrades from London through Prague into its core stack, ensuring full EVM equivalence for developers. This move also replaced the Clique sequencer mechanism with the Maru consensus client using QBFT, supporting decentralized sequencing. Furthermore, Linea implemented EIP-7702, enabling gasless and batch transactions without user action.
The upgrade added support for PUSH0 and MCOPY opcodes, and deployed the Credible Layer, a security infrastructure from Phylax Systems, allowing users to define security rules for smart contracts. Additionally, the network raised the block gas limit to 2B, enabling more efficient transaction processing. The new verifier supports Pause Cooldown, preventing non-Security-Council members from pausing the network indefinitely and supporting the user exit window.
Linea's commitment to technical parity is evident in its beta versions, with v5.3 targeting prover performance optimizations via small fields and v5.4 aiming for finality under 30 minutes while increasing throughput to 200 Mgas/s. The limitless prover, introduced in Beta v3, eliminated sequencer limits, allowing for higher throughput and stable gas fees.
Linea's Exponent Dual-Burn upgrade introduced a protocol-level deflationary model, burning 20% of the ETH collected as fees and using the remaining 80% to buy and burn LINEA tokens from the open market. This ties token value to network activity. The Yield Boost mechanism also allows staking ETH held in the LineaRollup contract to provide rewards to the L2 ecosystem.
