A significant security breach occurred on September 6 when nearly 4,000 BTC, worth roughly $320 million, were withdrawn from the Liquid Federation's Bitcoin wallet in an unauthorized transaction.

The federation confirmed that 'white-hat hackers' carried out the withdrawal, leaving an on-chain message saying 'we are whitehats. contact us on chain.'

Liquid stated that the transaction was authorized with SideSwap's peg-out authorization key (PAK), but not the PAK itself, which suggests another part of the control chain may have failed.
