Liquid Hackers Offer to Return Nearly 95% of Stolen Bitcoin
Nearly 4,000 BTC, approximately 95% of Liquid's reported Bitcoin reserves, was withdrawn from its federation wallet on September 6. The withdrawal exposed Liquid's peg and left many wondering about the security of the network.
The unidentified actors behind the heist have since offered to return 'most' of the funds once Blockstream patches the undisclosed network vulnerability. They communicated their offer through Bitcoin transactions carrying OP_RETURN messages, which also included PGP signatures for publicly verifiable communication.
No confirmed repayment or public patch had occurred by the time this article was prepared. The actors demanded that every node be updated with the patch before any repayment could take place.
