Liquid Network Exploited for 4,000 BTC
Blockstream's Liquid Network was exploited on September 6, resulting in the withdrawal of approximately 4,000 BTC worth $320 million. The incident occurred when a bug in Blockstream's Elements software was discovered by so-called 'white hat' hackers.
The Liquid Network was paused after the exploit, with exchanges instructed to halt L-BTC deposits and withdrawals. Blockstream attempted to contact the white hats onchain, sending an OP_RETURN message with their email address.
However, not everyone is convinced that the individuals involved were acting as white hats. Ledger CTO Charles Guillemet shared his doubts, stating that the behavior did not seem typical of responsible disclosure practices.
