Liquid Staking Revolutionizes Ethereum's Staking Market
Liquid staking has become increasingly popular on Ethereum, where users can earn rewards by helping secure the blockchain. However, this model differs from traditional staking, which requires users to lock up their assets for a set period.
In traditional staking, solo validators require 32 ETH and need technical infrastructure to operate, making it inaccessible to smaller holders. Delegated staking allows third-party operators to conduct the validation on behalf of the owner, providing the required ETH.
Liquid staking protocols pool assets from multiple users, delegate them to validators, and issue liquid staking tokens (LSTs) representing the user's share of staked assets and accumulated rewards. Lido's stETH and Rocket Pool's rETH are examples of these tokens, which can be traded, transferred, or used across decentralized finance.
While liquid staking provides flexibility by allowing users to earn rewards while still using tokenized representations of their assets, it also introduces new risks such as smart-contract vulnerabilities, validator slashing, and liquidity issues.
