Lisk Price Sprints 500% Before Crashing Back Down
The cryptocurrency Lisk (LSK) experienced a wild ride over the weekend, surging by more than 500% on Sunday before crashing back down to earth. This sudden price swing made LSK the largest liquidation event in crypto over the past 24 hours, with traders on both sides of the move being forced out.
The price spike was largely driven by short sellers who were betting on a decline in the token's value. As LSK rose, these short sellers were forced to repurchase the token, further fueling its upward momentum. However, this buying frenzy proved short-lived, and the token's price eventually collapsed back down to around $0.81.
The sudden price swing has raised questions about the token's future prospects. In July, Binance added LSK to its Monitoring Tag, a warning label applied to unusually volatile listings. More recently, Lisk announced plans to shut down its blockchain on October 31 and rebuild as a stablecoin payments service for company finance teams.
This plan includes a proposal to destroy 100 million LSK held in the treasury, cutting maximum supply by a quarter. However, token holders have yet to vote on this proposal, leaving uncertainty surrounding the token's future.
