LIT Token Surges Amid US Regulatory Opening Bets
Lighter's LIT token has seen a significant surge in value over the past month, rising by 99.5% to $4.21 and making it one of the top-performing tokens in the perpetual DEX space.
This growth can be attributed to trader positioning for a U.S. regulatory opening that neither Lighter nor the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has announced, although the CFTC did issue a policy statement on listing perpetual contracts in June and followed with staff letter 26-19.
Lighter founder Vladimir Novakovski holds one of the 43 seats on the CFTC's Innovation Advisory Committee, but this does not grant trading authorization. The sector-wide opening is real, as President Donald Trump mentioned on Aug. 20 that CFTC Chairman Michael Selig was working to bring Hyperliquid into the U.S. in a fully compliant and legal fashion.
Robinhood's share of Lighter's volume has grown significantly, with 16.9% of total volume coming from the Robinhood instance over 24 hours. This is up from $10.4 million in deposits on July 20 to $57.5 million on Thursday, contributing to a 24.9% increase in Lighter's total value locked.
