Litecoin Diverges from Bitcoin in Mining Algorithm and Protocol Parameters
Litecoin (LTC) is an open payment network powered by its native asset. It was developed using Bitcoin's codebase but features its own blockchain, a distinct coin, and different protocol parameters.
The main difference between Litecoin and Bitcoin lies in the mining algorithm, with Litecoin utilizing Scrypt instead of SHA-256. The target block time and maximum supply also differ from those of Bitcoin.
LTC's area of use is as a payment network, where LTC is used to pay transaction fees. Payment providers may lock the price for a certain period or use the instantaneous exchange rate, but a centralized chargeback mechanism does not exist in the same way as with credit card transactions.
