London Gang Demands Crypto Ransom, Holds French Investors Captive
Two French cryptocurrency investors were held captive in London for over 52 hours by a gang that demanded $150,000 in crypto. The victims, both in their 20s, were abducted while visiting London and subjected to confinement, violence, and threats before being rescued by the Metropolitan Police's Flying Squad.
The investigation turned when a friend who had traveled with the victims escaped during the ambush and left his mobile phone behind. Officers tracked the gang using the phone's location and CCTV footage, leading to a high-speed chase through residential London streets.
The defendants were convicted of various charges, including conspiracy to blackmail and false imprisonment. However, the alleged mastermind, Ibrahim Mohamed, also known as 'Nino,' remains at large and is believed to have directed the operation from overseas.
Crypto kidnapping cases continue to draw attention as criminals increasingly rely on physical coercion rather than online attacks to steal digital assets.
