London Stock Exchange Delves into Blockchain-Based Finance with xStocks Partnership
The London Stock Exchange is making significant strides in blockchain-based finance through its partnership with Payward. The two companies plan to tokenize shares of the top 100 UK-listed stocks, bringing them on-chain and paving the way for trading on LSE 24. This platform, which is still under development, aims to offer longer and more flexible trading hours.
Payward's xStocks will track the value of actual shares, allowing investors to trade them with faster settlement and easier integration with crypto wallets and blockchain platforms. However, it's essential to note that owning xStocks isn't the same as holding traditional shares, with holders missing out on certain legal rights and shareholder perks.
The move is seen as a significant milestone for tokenization in finance, with the London Stock Exchange Group joining forces with Payward to bring blockchain technology to mainstream markets. The partnership marks an expansion of xStocks beyond UK borders, with plans to include international stocks from markets like Hong Kong and South Korea.
