London Stock Exchange Launches UK Tokenized Equity Structures
The London Stock Exchange is launching UK tokenized equity structures and partnering with Payward to explore tokenized public equity markets. This move aims to broaden access to capital markets while preserving shareholder rights, protections, and governance standards.
The LSEG Digital Securities Depository (LSEG DSD) will support settlement and asset servicing for the new structure, subject to regulatory approval. The partnership with Payward will focus on connecting regulated market infrastructure with digital-native distribution to facilitate seamless connectivity between tokenized and traditional infrastructure.
Julia Hoggett, CEO of LSE plc and Head of Digital and Securities Markets, stated that tokenization has the potential to change how investors access and issuers use financial markets. Arjun Sethi, Co-CEO of Payward, said that bringing London-listed companies on-chain as xStocks is just the start of demonstrating what becomes possible when securities move onto blockchain rails.
