Lost Bitcoin Value Slightly Increases Remaining Coins' Worth
Bitcoin's unique properties mean that losing access to one's coins doesn't harm the network as a whole, but rather slightly increases the value of remaining coins. This is due to its infinitely divisible nature and finite supply.
A study suggests that approximately 20% of all Bitcoins are lost due to private keys being misplaced or forgotten, representing around $3.6 billion to $4.2 billion in value.
Cryptocurrency analyst Timothy Peterson claims that 1,500 Bitcoins are lost each day, which could mean that only 14 million BTC will ever circulate, contradicting the estimate of 18.5 million coins from other organizations.
