Louisa County Halt Crypto Mining Projects for 18 Months

Share

The Louisa County Board of Supervisors approved the first reading of a resolution to halt cryptocurrency mining projects in the county. The moratorium will last for 18 months or until an ordinance regulating such facilities is established, whichever comes first.

The board conducted a public hearing on September 1, following a decision made on July 7 to establish a moratorium on data center projects in the county. Board Chair Kevin Hardin explained that the cryptocurrency moratorium would follow the same pattern as the data center decision.

Supervisor Scot Hunt pointed out that some residents may have been unable to attend the meeting due to another public hearing scheduled for the same evening. The board agreed to consider the second reading at its September 16 meeting and potentially waive the third reading then.
