Low Adoption Rates for Bitcoin in El Salvador, According to Developer

Jon Atack, a developer for Bitcoin Core, has expressed concerns about the adoption of Bitcoin in El Salvador. In an interview, he stated that after paying with Bitcoin at a restaurant in El Zonte (Bitcoin Beach), one of the waiters told him it was the first Bitcoin payment they had received all month.

Atack has lived in the area since 2022 and noted that this was not the case a few years ago. He attributed the decline to the fact that most customers pay with credit cards, and even when he asked if he could give a tip in Bitcoin satoshis, the waiter forgot how to use the Bitcoin app.

Atack emphasized that his observations were anecdotal but highlighted that the server had three years of experience at the restaurant. His comments sparked both positive and negative reactions from readers, with some arguing that it is an economic problem and that people need to be willing to act altruistically for a circular economy.
