LSE and Payward Launch Tokenized Trading for Top UK-Listed Stocks
The London Stock Exchange (LSE) and Payward are teaming up to bring tokenized trading to top UK-listed stocks. The plan involves creating one-to-one-backed tokens for the 100 largest companies on the LSE, allowing for 24/7 trading outside traditional hours.
According to the source, xStocks tokens have already recorded over $40 billion in trading volume with $20 billion settled onchain and 200,000+ holders in a year. The plan is pending regulatory approval and could extend access to investors in more than 110 countries.
The LSE plans to list xStocks on its new 24-hour venue, LSE 24, which would provide a wider distribution channel for UK-listed equities. Payward's co-CEO Arjun Sethi stated that the partnership shows 'crypto and traditional finance can converge', while LSE CEO Julia Hoggett emphasized that tokenization must develop in a way that preserves trust, investor rights, and the role of regulated markets.
