LSE Launches Overnight Trading Platform for Exchange-Traded Products
The London Stock Exchange (LSE) is preparing to introduce an overnight trading platform for exchange-traded products (ETPs), aiming to enhance trading availability and align with cryptocurrency-style continuous market access. The new venue will operate from 5 p.m. to 7:50 a.m. London time, with a brief 30-minute interruption between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. for processing and maintenance.
The LSE's core daytime market will continue its established hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., providing near-continuous access for investors when the two sessions are combined. Initial offerings will center on ETPs that track major UK and U.S. equities and indices, allowing participants to respond swiftly to international developments outside conventional business hours.
LSE CEO Julia Hoggett highlighted growing retail investor interest in maintaining exposure to domestic and global assets during UK time zones. The move positions the LSE among a wave of global market operators adapting to evolving investor behaviors, with many smaller investors seeking the ability to act on news flows without waiting for the next trading day.
