LSE Taps into Blockchain with Tokenized Equity Partnership

Share

The London Stock Exchange (LSE) has partnered with Payward, the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken, to explore tokenized equity structures. This move is part of a broader effort by the LSE to modernize and expand access to capital markets.

The partnership will see the two companies collaborate on how best to connect the LSE's regulated market ecosystem with digital-native technologies and wallet-based interactions. This will enable retail investors to trade tokens that track the share prices of public companies on the LSE 24, a trading venue offering near-continuous trading from Monday to Friday.

The tokenized equity structures will be designed to preserve existing shareholder rights, protections, and governance standards while broadening access to capital markets. The LSE's chief executive, Julia Hoggett, said that tokenization has the potential to change how investors access financial markets but must develop in a way that preserves trust and maintains regulatory standards.
