LSEG Teams Up With Payward to Put UK Stocks On Blockchain
The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) is partnering with Payward to explore a new way of trading UK-listed shares on blockchain networks. The partnership aims to put tokenised versions of the 100 largest companies listed on the LSE on the blockchain, giving international investors access to UK equities through digital infrastructure.
The project, which marks a major step in the convergence of traditional finance and crypto markets, will see Payward bring the 100 largest LSE-listed companies to its xStocks tokenisation framework. The first UK-listed tokenised stocks are expected to become available in the coming weeks, although access will depend on applicable market and regulatory rules.
LSEG plans to connect tokenised equities with LSE 24, its new extended-hours trading venue, subject to regulatory approval. This could allow eligible investors in more than 110 countries to gain exposure to London-listed companies through xStocks. However, xStocks are currently not available to investors based in the UK.
