Lummis Presses Democrats on CLARITY Act with 'Zero Federal Protection' Warning
Senator Cynthia Lummis is pressing Democrats to support the CLARITY Act, citing over 100 changes they made to the bill. The Wyoming Republican argues that if the legislation fails, consumers will have 'zero federal protection'.
The revised CLARITY Act includes provisions addressing decentralized-finance protocols and would divide cryptocurrency oversight between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Supporters of the bill need bipartisan backing to advance it in the Senate, which requires 60 votes. The House already passed the measure 294-134 in July 2025, with 78 Democrats supporting it.
Lummis claims that Democratic lawmakers 'wrote the fix' and now must pass the CLARITY Act, emphasizing that consumers will be left unprotected if it fails.
