Lummis Presses for CLARITY Act Vote Before August Recess

Share

Senator Cynthia Lummis is pushing for a vote on the CLARITY Act before the Senate's August recess. The bill, which aims to provide clarity in the crypto market structure, has been under negotiation for nearly 11 months.

Lummis stated that lawmakers are still working towards an agreement, with talks focusing on CFTC authority, ethics rules, illicit finance, and stablecoin yield.

According to Lummis, the Senate's legislative window is narrowing, and she urged her colleagues to establish clear rules for digital-asset companies to prevent them from moving their operations outside the US. She also warned that regulatory uncertainty could push more crypto activity towards jurisdictions like Switzerland and Singapore.

Negotiations remain fluid, with Democrats seeking stronger restrictions on senior government officials profiting from crypto ventures. Republicans hold 53 Senate seats, meaning the bill would likely require support from at least seven Democrats to advance.
