Lummis Renews CLARITY Act Push as Senate Action Slows Amid Delayed Vote
U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis is renewing her push for the CLARITY Act, which would establish digital asset market rules and strengthen customer protections. The legislation has stalled in Senate action, with a vote delayed until September after the August recess.
Lummis expressed frustration over the progress of the bill, stating that lawmakers have invested too much work in a comprehensive U.S. crypto framework to stop now. She tied her commitment to her view that digital asset companies need predictable federal rules to operate and expand in the United States.
The CLARITY Act would treat covered customer cash and crypto as customer property, require segregation from company assets, and address ownership disputes highlighted by Celsius. Lummis warned that further delays could push comprehensive rules to 2030.
