Lummis Slams Democrats Over Stalled Clarity Act
Senator Cynthia Lummis, known as the 'Bitcoin Senator', has criticized Democrat lawmakers for holding up the Clarity Act. The bill aims to create a regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency market and has been in the works for nearly a year. Lummis expressed frustration on the Senate floor, stating that after giving in to almost all of her Democrat colleagues' requests, she's unsure what else is needed to pass the bill.
The Clarity Act has faced opposition from some Democrats due to concerns over stablecoin yields and ethics. An updated version of the bill was introduced last week, addressing these issues by banning government officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto. Despite receiving bipartisan support in the House of Representatives last year, the bill has stalled in the Senate.
Lummis emphasized that the Clarity Act is a good bill for both consumers and lawmakers, and she's struggling to understand why it's being held up. Republicans are hoping to gain bipartisan support this week to advance the legislation and pass the bill before Congress departs for August recess.
