Lummis Sounds Alarm: CLARITY Act Must Pass by Sept 15 or Wait Until 2030
Crypto industry stakeholders have been eagerly awaiting a federal market structure framework for years. According to Senator Cynthia Lummis, the window of opportunity to achieve this may be shorter than most people realize.
Lummis posted on X, reinforcing her stance on the CLARITY Act, stating: 'If the Clarity Act doesn't pass this Congress, the next real opportunity to bring market structure legislation back up is 2030.'
The Senator emphasized that years of jobs, investment, and tax revenue are at stake, calling on lawmakers to finish the work now. The CLARITY Act's Senate cloture vote is scheduled for September 15 at 2 p.m., requiring 60 votes to advance the bill.
All 53 Senate Republicans have committed to voting yes, but 7 Democratic votes are still needed. If the bill fails to clear cloture, it would restart from zero in a new Congress in January 2026, which Lummis believes would not produce results until 2030.
