Lummis: Trump Agrees to Most Restrictive Crypto Ethics Rules Ever Imposed
Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) praised President Donald Trump for accepting stricter cryptocurrency ethics rules, calling it 'the most restrictive' ever imposed on a president.
Lummis made her comments during an appearance on Fox Business's Mornings with Maria, where she discussed the revised CLARITY Act. This bill overhauls federal cryptocurrency regulation and includes new ethics language that Trump has agreed to accept.
The proposed legislation would bar public officials and their spouses from issuing or sponsoring digital assets while in office, with violators facing fines and potential forfeiture of crypto-related profits.
However, Democratic lawmakers have expressed concerns that the bill's language leaves loopholes and fails to address issues surrounding Trump's family's cryptocurrency ventures. These transactions earned the president $1.4 billion in 2025, his first year of his second term.
