Lummis Warns Crypto Industry: CLARITY Act Fails in 2026, Next Chance Isn't Until 2030
Senator Cynthia Lummis has issued a warning to the crypto industry regarding the CLARITY Act, stating that if it doesn't pass this Congress, the next real opportunity to bring market structure legislation back up won't come until 2030.
Lummis emphasized that years of jobs, investment, and tax revenue are at stake, and urged lawmakers to finish the work now. The Senate cloture vote on the CLARITY Act is scheduled for September 15, and Lummis believes that failing to clear this hurdle would mean restarting from zero in a new Congress with an unknown composition.
The House of Representatives has also created a timing problem, canceling its final two weeks of session. If the Senate passes an amended version of the bill, the House must approve those changes before it can go to the President. With members absent until mid-November, any Senate amendments could stall the bill.
