Lummis Warns of 2030 Delay for CLARITY Act
Senator Cynthia Lummis has warned that failure to pass the CLARITY Act during the current U.S. congressional session could push comprehensive cryptocurrency market-structure legislation into 2030, raising concerns over prolonged regulatory uncertainty for the digital asset industry.
The warning comes with only eight days remaining before a scheduled Senate cloture vote on September 15. Lummis said a failure to advance the legislation could result in lost jobs, investment and tax revenue as the United States continues to debate its long-term regulatory framework for digital assets.
The CLARITY Act is designed to establish clearer rules for digital assets and define the respective responsibilities of the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Those distinctions are central to the industry's effort to obtain greater regulatory certainty for exchanges, token issuers and other market participants.
