Lummis Warns of 5-Year Delay in Crypto Regulation Without Clarity Act Passage
Senator Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming is urging her colleagues to pass the CLARITY Act, warning that inaction could delay comprehensive crypto regulation until 2030.
The legislation aims to clarify digital asset oversight in America by establishing frameworks for classifying assets as securities or commodities and delineating jurisdictional boundaries between regulatory bodies.
After clearing the House of Representatives in July 2025, the bill has stalled in the Senate, awaiting a conclusive vote on September 15. However, Democratic lawmakers are insisting on incorporating ethics standards into the bill, which remains unresolved in ongoing negotiations.
Lummis emphasized that completing the legislative process immediately will prevent 'years of potential' in job creation, capital investment, and government revenue generation, suggesting that without passage during the current session, legislators would need to restart the entire process in 2030.
