Luno Cuts 20% of Global Workforce Amid Crypto Market Volatility
Crypto exchange Luno has undergone a significant restructuring, cutting its global workforce by 20% in July 2026. According to CEO James Lanigan, this move is part of a corporate reorganization process aimed at adjusting the company's operating structure in light of recent crypto market behavior.
The staff reduction affects various geographic areas of the company, which is headquartered in London. Luno has made significant investments in automation and process improvements over the past year, transforming its human resource requirements to manage daily operations.
As part of this strategic reorientation, Luno will channel greater resources toward its business-to-business (B2B) services division, strengthening technological infrastructure, updating regulatory compliance protocols, and optimizing products for retail users. This move is in line with the company's goal of diversifying its revenue streams toward institutional infrastructure and payments segments.
Luno has a base of 16 million users across its African and Asia-Pacific markets, with technical management making its infrastructure available to institutional partners such as Discovery Bank. The platform also participates in the ZARU project, a digital asset backed by the South African rand, which aims to consolidate the issuance of non-USD stablecoins in emerging markets.
