Malaysian authorities have cracked down on three illicit Bitcoin mining operations in Tronoh, arresting two men and seizing 73 cryptocurrency mining rigs. The joint operation, conducted by local police and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), targeted locations suspected of electricity theft.

The raids focused on three separate sites in the Perak region, where authorities have reported millions of ringgit in losses annually due to such activities. The two suspects, aged 40 and 52, were taken into custody during the raids.

The seized mining rigs, which include specialized ASIC hardware, have been confiscated as evidence. Authorities are investigating the men under Malaysian laws related to electricity theft and damage to electrical installations.

While Bitcoin mining itself is legal in Malaysia, operating without proper electricity metering and payment constitutes theft. The crackdown highlights the regulatory risks for miners who attempt to cut costs illegally.
